How to Freshen Up Your Home for Spring

12 April 2017, by Design A House Sign Spring Home

With the spring season fully underway, you may be looking to freshen up your home over the coming weeks. While not all of us have the time or money to redecorate every year, there are some things that you can do around the home to give it a new lease of life. These are not expensive and don’t take a great deal of time but they can make your home feel much brighter with little effort.

Bring the outdoors indoors

One of the easiest ways that you can freshen up your home is by bringing the outdoors in; this can be done in a variety of ways. Firstly, clear the areas around your windows - the more natural light, the better! Bringing in freshly cut flowers is a great way to make a kitchen or living room feel more cheerful; house plants can also make a huge difference in areas that aren't best suited to fresh-cut flowers, like the bathroom or study. You could also use things like candles, reed diffusers or scented oils to create welcoming aromas in your home and make things smell fresh. All of these ideas will bring a sense of springtime into your home, making a real difference to how it feels.

Fresh coat of paint

Another way that you can freshen up your home for the spring season is with a fresh coat of paint in some areas of your home. If you can't afford to paint the whole house, opt for high-traffic areas like the kitchen and hallway, as these are usually the areas that are prone to scuffs and stains on paintwork.

Another simple fix is to paint wooden faucets in your home such as doors, skirting boards or cupboards. You may well have some white gloss lying around that will do the trick and a fresh coat of white can brighten up a room.

Get some new accessories

Adding some new accessories to your home can help to freshen up the place and make it feel brighter again. Just like you would use accessories to make an outfit look different, you can do the same with new accessories in your home, such as cushions, ornaments or art. By going with bright spring colours you can make your house seem like a more welcoming environment. It doesn’t have to be too expensive either, as just a few items can make a difference.

Focus on the bedroom

One of the areas of the home that is often neglected is the bedroom, despite being somewhere that we spend a lot of our time. It is important that you put some effort into making your bedroom into a relaxing space where you can unwind after a hard day at work. Whether you opt to finish off that bit of DIY or buy some new bedding, investing some time in your bedroom can really make a difference to the way you feel about your home.

By following these tips you can brighten up your home and give it a fresh feeling this spring. It doesn’t have to cost much and just small changes can have a big impact on your home. You could even make changes to the front of your home, such as putting in some new bedding plants or even a house sign. Whatever you choose to do, making a small change in your home can help make it feel that much brighter.
