A Grand Entrance: Making The Most Of Your Hallway
12 September 2017, by Design A House Sign
Your hallway is the space that welcomes you home, and the
first thing guests see when they come to visit – it should be warm and
welcoming, full of personal touches. However, hallways are often neglected and
turned into a dumping area for coats and shoes. If you want to avoid making a
bad first impression and make sure that you truly make the most of your
hallway, here are some simple decorating ideas to help you achieve a unique look.
If you really want to add some character to your hallway,
then creating a feature wall is a great option. Look out for bold, funky
wallpapers to suit your personal style – from bright, clashing colours to geometrical
patterns, the options are endless. Don’t be afraid to make a statement! You
hallway is a walk-through area, so you won’t be staring at the wall for too
long – you can afford to be bold.
Add some colour and brightness to your hallway by decorating
it with some plants. You can get creative with the colour and shape of the
pots, or even decorate them yourself to match the style of your house. Plants
instantly make whatever space they’re in look more welcoming, which is exactly
what you want your hallway to be.
Hallways are usually small spaces, which is why hanging a mirror
is a great idea. It will make the space look brighter and bigger, by reflecting
light and giving the illusion of space, and will also prove incredibly useful when
you’re rushing out and wanting to quickly make sure you look fine. You can hang
the mirror or lean it against the wall, or even use multiple ones, each of a
different shape. This alone will make your hallway stand out!
If you want to go for
a more classic look, then creating a small art gallery in your hallway would be
ideal. How you choose to lay it out is completely up to you – you can opt for
similar paintings or prints or contrasting ones, you can frame them in
different colours, hang them up at different heights or in a straight line… the
options are endless. Just make sure that your little display reflects you and
your personality, so that whoever comes through the front door already has a
taste of who you are. Make sure to keep the other walls bare to avoid a
Adding furniture to your hallway will immediately make it
look more inviting and welcoming. Consider adding a cushioned bench which you
can use both as a seat to put your shoes on, and for storage. Add baskets
underneath it to store away clutter, or, if there’s enough space, even a shoe
rack. Remember that your hallway should combine both style and comfort, and
allow you to keep everything organised!
